Candlewicking Embroidery Kits

Embroidery is a needlework craft that covers vast variety of stitching styles and has created a wide variety embroidery crafts popular today. Examples of these embroidery crafts include machine embroidery, linen embroidery, whitework embroidery, silk embroidery, gold embroidery, openwork embroidery and crewel embroidery.

Candlewicking is a type of whitework embroidery is based upon two basic stitches, Colonial Knot and teh Backstitch, and uses unbleached cotton thread to stitch upon on unbleached muslin. Traditionally, Candlewicking was done white on white, but today´s embroiderers use many different colors of thread to give their work a distinctive look - however you do find that the main colors are still white on white, with other colors only used as accent colors, or as painted designs that are not stitched.

This craft uses candlewicking thread but you can also substitute ecru six-strand embroidery floss or pearl cotton and a size 22 or 24 chenille needle or a large sharp embroidery needle. Subject matter is usually taken from nature - flowers, insects, pine trees, and so on, Other traditional motifs resemble Pennsylvania Dutch or Colonial American designs. Modern designs include colored floss embroidery with the traditional white on white stitching.

Currently,we offer a small selection of Candlewicking embroidery kits from Janlynn. We will be adding more kits in the weeks ahead.

Please join our email so we can notify you as we add floss and threads to our site.
